Amazon Brand Registry is the program that decides whether you control your own product listings or fight for them every week. Enrollment unlocks A+ Content, Brand Stores, Brand Analytics, Sponsored Brands ads, the Report a Violation tool, and — for qualifying brands — Project Zero and Transparency. It also closes the door on a category of problems most sellers never recover from: hijackers piggybacking your ASINs, counterfeit listings, copied images, and bad-actor sellers using your brand name without authorization.

Quick answer Amazon Brand Registry is a free Amazon program that ties a registered or pending trademark to your seller account, giving you authority over listings carrying your brand name and access to enforcement tools that ordinary sellers can't use. To enroll, you need a USPTO-registered or pending trademark (Amazon now accepts pending applications from any qualified USPTO attorney — an Amazon Brand Registry lawyer can file directly without IP Accelerator), product photos showing the brand name permanently affixed, and access to the attorney email on file with the USPTO for verification. Approvals typically take 2–4 weeks. The five most common denial reasons — owner mismatch, mark-type mismatch, packaging proof problems, verification routing failures, and Abusive Conduct flags — are all fixable with the right evidence packet.

What Amazon Brand Registry actually is

Amazon Brand Registry is a free Amazon program — separate from Seller Central, with its own portal at brandregistry.amazon.com — that links a registered or pending trademark to your Amazon account. Once Amazon verifies that the trademark belongs to you (or your authorized organization), it grants you a tier of authority over listings carrying that brand name that ordinary unbranded sellers don't have.

The practical effect is twofold. First, your content contributions to product detail pages — titles, bullets, images, A+ content — carry more weight than other sellers' edits. Second, you gain access to enforcement and analytics tools that are gated behind enrollment: Report a Violation, Brand Analytics, automated protections, Project Zero (invite-only), Transparency (opt-in), and Walmart Brand Portal in parallel.

For a serious brand selling on Amazon, Brand Registry is the difference between defending your listings reactively, complaint by complaint, and operating as the recognized brand owner inside the catalog with structural advantages other sellers don't have.

Why Brand Registry matters in 2026

The marketplace environment in 2026 has made unenrolled brand sellers measurably more vulnerable than they were three years ago. Three trends are converging:

  • Hijacker tooling has industrialized. What used to require manual effort — finding a successful listing, sourcing knockoff units, piggybacking the ASIN — is now automated end-to-end by third-party software services. Listings without Brand Registry protection are scanned and targeted within days of gaining traction.
  • Counterfeit enforcement has moved upstream. Amazon's Project Zero and Transparency programs now block suspect units at the fulfillment center, before they reach customers. Both require Brand Registry enrollment. Brands without it can only react after counterfeit listings appear publicly, by which point the buy box has often already shifted.
  • Schedule A litigation has surged. Mass IP lawsuits — typically filed in the Northern District of Illinois — sweep dozens of marketplace sellers into a single complaint, with TRO-frozen funds and default judgments common. Brand Registry status doesn't immunize a seller from being a defendant, but it does provide documentation that often shifts the conversation with plaintiff's counsel.

For brands stuck outside Brand Registry — or whose enrollment was denied and never recovered — the gap widens every quarter. If you've already been denied or pulled into Brand Registry denial recovery territory, the right move is an attorney audit before re-applying; repeated denials make subsequent applications harder, not easier.

Eligibility & requirements (2026)

Amazon's published Brand Registry requirements are deceptively simple. The list of things you need fits on one screen. The list of things that go wrong during verification fits on ten. Here's both.

The official requirements

Requirement What Amazon actually checks
Active or pending trademark USPTO, UKIPO, EUIPO, CIPO, IP Australia, or other accepted office. Word marks and design marks containing the brand name both qualify. Pending applications now accepted from any qualified USPTO attorney (see section below).
Exact brand name match The brand name on your trademark filing must match exactly what appears on your products, your packaging, and your Amazon brand field. "MyBrand" and "My Brand Co" are different brands to Amazon's verification system.
Real-world product photos Photos of the actual physical product or packaging with the brand name permanently printed, embossed, or labeled. Mockups, renders, and temporary stickers are rejected — and create an Abusive Conduct risk if Amazon detects them.
Seller Central or Vendor Central account An active account in good standing for the marketplace region where you want Brand Registry benefits. US trademark → US marketplace, UK/EU trademark → UK/EU marketplace, etc.
Verification routing Access to the attorney or correspondent email currently listed on your trademark record with the USPTO. Amazon emails a one-time code to that address and will not re-route it.
The verification routing problem. The single most common reason otherwise-qualified brands get stuck in Brand Registry purgatory is that the attorney of record on the USPTO file is unreachable — old firm, outdated email, attorney retired, or the seller filed the trademark themselves years ago using an email they no longer access. Before applying, log into TSDR at tsdr.uspto.gov and confirm the email address Amazon will send the code to is one you can actually open.

Pending vs registered trademark — and why IP Accelerator is obsolete

This is the part of Brand Registry that changed most between 2024 and 2026, and where outdated advice on the internet is still costing sellers thousands of dollars in unnecessary IP Accelerator premiums.

Historically, Amazon required a fully registered trademark for Brand Registry, with one exception: applications filed through Amazon's IP Accelerator program, which let sellers enroll on a pending application by routing through a vetted law firm. IP Accelerator firms charged premium flat fees for that early-access privilege — typically $950 for filing plus $500–$1,800 for the clearance search plus $400/hour for office action responses.

Two structural changes have eliminated IP Accelerator's main advantage:

  1. USPTO serial number availability. The USPTO assigns and surfaces a trademark serial number quickly after filing — not the multi-month delay that once justified IP Accelerator's "skip the wait" promise. The serial number is the credential Amazon checks at enrollment.
  2. Amazon's broader acceptance. Amazon now accepts pending trademark applications from qualified USPTO attorneys regardless of whether the firm is on the IP Accelerator list. Industry guidance in 2026 has noted that IP Accelerator "is no longer significantly faster than direct filing and could be slower and pricier."

For most brand sellers, the practical implication is that the IP Accelerator premium no longer buys what it once did. A qualified USPTO trademark attorney can file directly, surface the serial number quickly, and get the seller into Brand Registry on the same timeline — without the IP Accelerator markup. See our analysis of the IP Accelerator alternative for the full breakdown of which IP Accelerator firms charge what and what their flat fees actually include.

Caveat on "pending" status. A pending trademark gets you Brand Registry access. It does not get you everything. Some downstream programs — particularly Transparency in certain configurations — have been documented (in 2026 seller forums) as treating pending IPA trademarks differently from registered marks. If your enforcement strategy depends on Transparency at the fulfillment-center level, plan on prosecuting the trademark through to registration rather than stopping at pending.

How to apply for Amazon Brand Registry (step-by-step)

The enrollment workflow itself is short. The preparation is where most failures happen, so the steps below are weighted accordingly — preparation first, submission second.

Before you log in

  1. Verify your trademark record. Open TSDR at tsdr.uspto.gov, enter your serial number, and confirm three things: (a) the brand name on the record matches what you sell, (b) the owner name matches your Amazon Seller Central legal entity, and (c) the attorney or correspondent email is one you can access. Misalignment on any of these is the single biggest driver of denial.
  2. Photograph the actual product. Take clear photos of the physical product and packaging showing the brand name permanently affixed — printed, embossed, woven in, laser-etched, or molded. Avoid renders, mockups, and any printing that could be mistaken for a temporary sticker. Photograph in natural light against a neutral background.
  3. Notify your trademark attorney. Tell whoever is the correspondent of record at the USPTO that Amazon will be emailing a one-time verification code in the coming days, and ask them to watch for it (including spam folders). Verification codes can expire if not retrieved promptly.
  4. Confirm your Seller Central account is in good standing. Brand Registry enrollment from a suspended or restricted account will fail. If your account has any open Performance Notifications, resolve them first.

The enrollment steps

  1. Go to brandregistry.amazon.com and sign in using your Seller Central or Vendor Central credentials. The portal recognizes your existing account; no separate registration needed.
  2. Click "Enroll a new brand." Enter your brand name exactly as it appears on the trademark record. Capitalization, spacing, and punctuation must match — this is the field Amazon's verification system compares directly against the USPTO record.
  3. Select the trademark office and enter the serial or registration number. US sellers use USPTO; UK sellers UKIPO; EU sellers EUIPO; Canadian sellers CIPO. Enter the number exactly as shown in TSDR or the equivalent national database.
  4. Upload product and packaging photos. Multiple angles. Show the brand name clearly and confirm it's permanently affixed. Amazon's reviewers compare what they see against the trademark; mismatches here are common denial drivers.
  5. Identify the product categories and IP rights. Select the categories where you sell or intend to sell. Specify whether you own additional IP (patents, copyrights) that should be on file with the brand.
  6. Submit and note the case ID. Amazon creates a Brand Registry case. Save the case ID — it's the reference for all subsequent verification correspondence.
  7. Coordinate the verification code. Amazon emails a one-time code to the attorney/correspondent on the trademark record, typically within 1–3 business days. Your attorney forwards that code to you (or directly into the Brand Registry case). Once accepted, Amazon completes verification.

Total elapsed time from clean submission to approval is typically 2–4 weeks, with the verification code routing as the main variable. Cases that stall past 4 weeks usually have a specific issue Amazon has flagged in the case log — read it, don't escalate blind.

Brand Registry denied, stuck under review, or hit with an Abusive Conduct flag?

Send the denial notice, your TSDR record, and the photos you submitted. We'll identify the specific mismatch Amazon flagged, rebuild the evidence packet, and tell you honestly whether a clean re-application will work or whether you need attorney-drafted escalation.

Brand Registry login & dashboard

Once enrolled, Brand Registry runs as a parallel portal to Seller Central. The login URL is brandregistry.amazon.com for the US marketplace. Regional marketplaces use country-specific URLs (brandregistry.amazon.co.uk, brandregistry.amazon.de, etc.), and credentials match the corresponding regional Seller Central account.

The dashboard is organized into five functional areas:

Dashboard area What you do here
My Brands List of enrolled brands, their verification status, role permissions, and connected trademarks. Add new brands or new trademarks to existing brands from here.
Report a Violation Search for listings using your brand, ASIN, image, or keywords. Report counterfeit, IP, or content violations. This is where most brand owners spend their daily time.
Manage Users Add or revoke access for agencies, employees, attorneys, or resellers. Roles include Brand Representative, Registered Agent, and Rights Owner — each with distinct permission scopes.
Catalog & Listings View ASINs associated with your brand, submit catalog corrections, and request that variations or relationships be restructured.
Case Log All open and historical Brand Registry support cases. This is where enrollment status updates, verification requests, and Abusive Conduct warnings appear. Check it regularly — Amazon does not always email when cases update.

If you can't log in after enrollment, the most common causes are: (1) using the wrong regional URL, (2) signing in with a different Amazon account than the one used during enrollment, or (3) a permission role mismatch — the trademark owner enrolled, but you were granted a sub-role that doesn't include dashboard access. Check Manage Users from the owner account first.

The full toolset: what enrollment unlocks

Brand Registry is two things in one: a protection layer and a marketing layer. Both unlock at enrollment; both compound in value as the brand scales.

Protection tools

  • Report a Violation (RAV). The core enforcement interface. Search by ASIN, keyword, or image; submit counterfeit, IP, or content-violation complaints. Faster and more reliable than the standard buyer-side reporting flow.
  • Automated protections. Behind-the-scenes systems that proactively block or suppress listings Amazon detects as suspicious based on your brand profile. Brands rarely see these in action; they show up as ASINs that never reach the marketplace.
  • Project Zero. Invite-only program (typically extended to brands with strong RAV track records) that grants direct ASIN-level removal authority — the brand owner can delete counterfeit listings without Amazon review. Misuse risks Abusive Conduct flags.
  • Transparency. Opt-in serialization program. Each unit gets a unique scannable code; Amazon's fulfillment centers scan codes before shipping and block units without valid codes — including counterfeit inventory commingled with FBA stock.

Marketing & analytics tools

  • A+ Content. Enhanced product detail page modules with images, comparison charts, and brand storytelling. Materially improves conversion on most categories.
  • Brand Stores. A customizable mini-site inside Amazon at amazon.com/yourbrand. Drives traffic from external campaigns into a controlled brand environment.
  • Sponsored Brands & Sponsored Brands Video. Ad formats that route to your Brand Store or curated landing pages rather than third-party search results.
  • Brand Analytics. Search-term reports, demographics, repeat-purchase behavior, market-basket analysis, and click/conversion data not available to unenrolled sellers.
  • Amazon Vine. Reviewer program that seeds early reviews from pre-vetted reviewers — essential for new product launches in competitive categories.
  • Brand Tailored Promotions. Targeted offer mechanisms aimed at specific buyer segments (repeat customers, high-value customers, abandoned-cart customers).

Brand Registry vs Transparency vs Project Zero

These three programs are routinely conflated. They sit at different levels of the enforcement stack and serve different purposes. Brand Registry is the foundation; the others build on it.

Program What it does Access Cost
Brand Registry Verifies trademark ownership; unlocks RAV, A+ Content, Brand Analytics, Brand Stores, ad formats, and access to the other two programs. Any brand with a registered or pending trademark. Free (trademark filing fees separate).
Project Zero Grants the brand direct authority to remove counterfeit listings without Amazon's manual review. Adds machine-learning-based automated protections trained on the brand's logos and imagery. Invite-only. Typically extended to brands with consistent, accurate RAV history. Free.
Transparency Serializes each unit with a unique scannable code. Amazon scans codes at the fulfillment center and blocks unverified units before shipping. Stops counterfeit FBA commingling. Opt-in. Brand must commit to applying codes to every unit and managing the serialization workflow. Per-code fee plus operational cost of code application.

The right configuration depends on what's actually attacking the brand. Hijackers without genuine inventory → Brand Registry + RAV usually sufficient. Counterfeit units entering FBA → Transparency is the only mechanism that stops them at the warehouse. High-volume counterfeit listings being constantly recreated → Project Zero's direct-removal authority saves significant operational time. Brands sometimes stack all three.

Common denial reasons and how to recover

Most Brand Registry denials are not mysterious. Amazon's denial notices almost always cite a specific concern; the issue is usually that the concern requires diagnostic work the seller doesn't know how to do. Here are the five patterns we see most often, and what the recovery actually requires.

1. Owner / entity mismatch

The USPTO trademark is registered to one entity ("Acme LLC") but the Amazon Seller Central account is in a different name ("Acme Holdings Inc." or the founder's personal name). Amazon's verification system treats these as different parties.

Fix: Either (a) update the USPTO record to match the Seller Central legal entity through an assignment recording (formal but routine), or (b) update Seller Central business information to match the trademark, depending on which is actually correct. Both require documentation. This is not a re-application problem — it's a corporate records problem to solve first.

2. Mark-type mismatch

You filed a trademark for a logo/design mark, but your packaging shows the brand name as plain text — or vice versa. Or the trademark covers stylized text that doesn't appear that way on the actual product. Amazon's verification compares what's filed against what's photographed.

Fix: Either re-photograph the product showing the trademark exactly as filed, or file a supplemental word-mark application alongside the design mark if both are warranted. The right answer depends on what's actually on your packaging today.

3. Verification code routing failure

The verification email goes to an unreachable attorney, a former firm, an outdated email address, or — for sellers who filed pro se — a personal email they no longer use. The code can't be retrieved and the case stalls.

Fix: File a Revocation of Power of Attorney or Change of Correspondence at the USPTO updating the email of record. Then request Amazon resend the code. This takes about 1–2 weeks but is reliable. Trying to fix it through Amazon support cases without updating the USPTO record will fail repeatedly.

4. Packaging proof problems

Photos show mockups, renders, temporary stickers, or branding that looks added-after-the-fact. Or the photos show the brand on a product but not on retail packaging. Or the photos are too small/blurry for verification.

Fix: Reshoot. Production packaging only, with permanent branding (printed, embossed, woven in, molded). Multiple angles. Natural light. High resolution. If your production runs don't yet have proper branded packaging, that's the underlying problem — solve it, then apply.

5. Abusive Conduct flag

Amazon's Brand Registry team has flagged the application as showing patterns of misuse — repeated rapid-fire support cases, contradictory submissions, claims of ownership that don't reconcile with documents, or signals of attempted gaming. Once an Abusive Conduct flag lands, ordinary re-application typically does not clear it.

Fix: This one requires attorney-drafted escalation, not more support cases. Stop submitting tickets. Pull together documented chain of ownership, USPTO records, and a clear narrative of how the prior misimpressions occurred. Submit through escalation channels, not the standard support form. Repeated standard-channel attempts can reinforce the flag.

For complex denials — particularly Abusive Conduct flags, multi-denial histories, or cases involving disputed ownership — the right next step is an attorney audit of a denied Brand Registry application before any further submission. The pattern of denials on a single brand becomes part of the record; resubmitting the same package after three denials makes the fourth harder, not easier.

Using Brand Registry for enforcement: hijackers, counterfeits, false complaints

Approval is the start. The brands that get the most out of Brand Registry treat enforcement as an ongoing operational discipline, not an occasional reaction. The three categories of action that come up most often:

Listing hijackers

Hijackers piggyback on your ASIN by adding their own offer to your detail page — typically selling inferior, expired, or counterfeit units, and often winning the buy box on price. Brand Registry gives you tools to document the misrepresentation: brand misuse, unauthorized seller status, image or content theft, customer-confusion risk.

Tactical playbook: identify the hijacker, document the offer (screenshots, test purchase, unit comparison), file a Report a Violation submission citing the strongest applicable basis (typically trademark infringement plus product authenticity), and follow up if the listing doesn't come down within Amazon's standard window. For persistent hijackers or large-scale operations, see our dedicated guidance on Amazon listing hijacker removal.

Counterfeit products

Counterfeit listings are a distinct category from hijackers — these are sellers offering products that are physically not yours but use your brand name, packaging, or imagery. The enforcement basis is trademark infringement, and the evidence pattern is unit comparison (your authentic product side-by-side with the counterfeit, showing material differences in manufacturing, materials, or quality).

For brands with steady counterfeit pressure, the right next layer is Transparency at the FBA level and, where warranted, Project Zero for direct removal authority. For high-volume counterfeit operations that survive Amazon's tools, federal trademark litigation — including Schedule A actions — may become rational.

False complaints against your own listings

The flip side of enforcement is when a bad-actor competitor files false IP complaints against your listings — typically alleging counterfeit, trademark, or copyright infringement against you when no infringement exists. These complaints can suppress your listings and damage your account health while Amazon investigates.

Brand Registry status gives you stronger standing to respond. The response framework is: identify the complainant (visible in Performance Notifications), document your ownership/authenticity, file a counter-notification through the appropriate channel, and where the complaint is malicious or repeated, escalate through Brand Registry support with an attorney-drafted brief.

Walmart Brand Portal and cross-marketplace strategy

Amazon Brand Registry is the most-discussed program in this space, but it's not the only one. Walmart Marketplace runs a parallel program — Walmart Brand Portal — that uses the same underlying trademark to grant equivalent enforcement and content authority on Walmart.com.

For brands selling on both platforms, the right strategy is one trademark, two enrollments. The trademark filing covers both. The Amazon enrollment unlocks Amazon's toolset; the Walmart Brand Portal enrollment unlocks Walmart's. Neither is dependent on the other, but the trademark prosecution work is leveraged across both.

eBay (VeRO program), Etsy (IP Reporting), and TikTok Shop (IP Protection) each run their own variant. The same trademark generally supports enrollment in all of them. Brands operating on multiple marketplaces should plan IP infrastructure across the full footprint rather than treating Amazon as the only channel.

Need help with Brand Registry?

Whether you're filing a new trademark to enroll, recovering from a denial, fighting an Abusive Conduct flag, or extending coverage to Walmart Brand Portal — the path forward depends on what's actually blocking you. Send the details and we'll tell you honestly what it takes.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Amazon Brand Registry?

Amazon Brand Registry is a free Amazon program that links a registered or pending trademark to a seller's Amazon account. Enrolled sellers are recognized as the brand owner inside the catalog and gain access to enforcement tools (Report a Violation, automated protections, Project Zero, Transparency), analytics tools (Brand Analytics), and marketing tools (A+ Content, Brand Stores, Sponsored Brands ads) that unenrolled sellers cannot use.

How do I apply for Amazon Brand Registry in 2026?

Verify your trademark record on TSDR (USPTO's status database), photograph your product and packaging showing the brand name permanently affixed, log into brandregistry.amazon.com with your Seller Central credentials, click Enroll a new brand, enter the brand name exactly as filed plus the trademark office and serial/registration number, upload photos, and submit. Amazon then emails a verification code to the attorney or correspondent on the trademark record; that code must be forwarded into the Brand Registry case to complete verification. Total elapsed time is typically 2–4 weeks for a clean submission.

Do I need IP Accelerator to enroll in Brand Registry?

No. Amazon now accepts pending trademark applications from any qualified USPTO attorney, not only IP Accelerator firms. The USPTO surfaces a serial number quickly after filing, and that serial number is what Brand Registry checks. IP Accelerator was useful when the USPTO took significantly longer to make serial numbers available; that delay has compressed materially, and industry guidance in 2026 has noted that IP Accelerator is no longer significantly faster than direct filing. The IP Accelerator premium — typically $950 for filing plus $500–$1,800 for clearance search plus $400/hour for office actions — no longer buys the same advantage it once did.

How long does Amazon Brand Registry approval take?

For a clean submission with no documentation issues, approvals typically arrive within 2–4 weeks. The single biggest variable is how quickly the verification code can be retrieved from the attorney or correspondent listed on the trademark record. Cases that stall past 4 weeks usually have a specific issue flagged in the Brand Registry case log — owner mismatch, photo problems, or verification routing failures are the most common causes.

How do I log in to Amazon Brand Registry?

Go to brandregistry.amazon.com and sign in using your Seller Central or Vendor Central credentials. Regional marketplaces use country-specific URLs — brandregistry.amazon.co.uk for the UK, brandregistry.amazon.de for Germany, and so on. Credentials must match the corresponding regional Seller Central account. If you can't log in after enrollment, the most common issue is using a different Amazon account than the one used during enrollment, or a permission role that doesn't include dashboard access.

Why was my Amazon Brand Registry application denied?

The five most common denial reasons are owner/entity mismatch between the USPTO record and Seller Central, mark-type mismatch between the filed trademark and what appears on packaging, verification code routing failures (unreachable attorney email), packaging proof problems (mockups, renders, or non-permanent branding), and Abusive Conduct flags from repeated improperly-framed support cases. Each requires a different recovery approach — the first two need corporate or filing corrections, the third needs USPTO record updates, the fourth needs reshoots, and the fifth typically needs attorney-drafted escalation rather than further support cases.

Can I enroll in Amazon Brand Registry without a trademark?

No. A registered or eligible pending trademark is mandatory. Amazon's entire verification system is built around trademark records, and attempting to enroll without one will result in denial. The trademark can be filed at the USPTO (for the US marketplace), UKIPO (UK), EUIPO (EU), CIPO (Canada), or other accepted national offices, and pending applications are now broadly accepted, but some form of trademark filing is required.

What is the difference between Brand Registry, Project Zero, and Transparency?

Brand Registry is the foundational program — free, available to any brand with a qualifying trademark, and the prerequisite for the other two. Project Zero is invite-only and grants the brand direct authority to remove counterfeit listings without Amazon manual review. Transparency is opt-in and serializes individual units with scannable codes that Amazon checks at the fulfillment center, blocking unverified units before shipping. Most brands start with Brand Registry alone; brands with persistent counterfeit pressure layer on Transparency and (if invited) Project Zero.

Is Amazon Brand Registry free?

Yes, the Brand Registry program itself is free. The associated costs are the trademark filing itself (USPTO government filing fees plus attorney fees for filing, clearance search, and any office action responses) and, optionally, Transparency per-unit fees if the brand elects that program. Brand Registry enrollment, A+ Content, Brand Stores, Brand Analytics, and Report a Violation all have no direct cost.

Can Brand Registry stop other sellers from listing my products?

Not automatically. Brand Registry does not gate the catalog so that only the brand owner can list. Legitimate resellers who obtain genuine inventory may still list products unless a separate distribution agreement or policy basis supports their removal. What Brand Registry does provide is the tooling to remove counterfeit listings, unauthorized use of trademark or imagery, and other documentable IP violations through Report a Violation and (for qualifying brands) Project Zero.
