Deactivated Amazon Account? 2025 Guide to Getting Your Seller Account Reinstated

By AMZ Sellers Attorney® — Amazon Suspension and Arbitration Lawyers
Last Updated: December 2, 2025

Short answer: A deactivated Amazon seller account is an account Amazon has shut down because of policy, performance, verification, or linked-account issues. Your listings stop selling, funds may be held, and you cannot open a new account. To reinstate a deactivated Amazon account, you must submit a focused Plan of Action with evidence that fixes root causes and prevents the problem from recurring.

1. What Does “Deactivated Amazon Account” Mean?

Amazon uses different terms--“suspended,” “deactivated,” “blocked,” “under review”. For sellers, a deactivated Amazon account usually means:

  • Your ability to list and sell is turned off.
  • Existing listings are removed or hidden from the marketplace.
  • Your balance may be frozen for 90 days or longer.
  • You must appeal and be reinstated before you can sell again.

Deactivation is not the same as closing your own account. It is Amazon’s enforcement action. In many cases, if you respond quickly with a strong appeal, a deactivated account can be reinstated.

2. Top Reasons Amazon Deactivates Seller Accounts

Amazon rarely deactivates a seller account for a single late shipment. Most deactivated Amazon seller accounts involve one or more of these patterns:

Performance problems

  • Order Defect Rate (ODR) over 1% from A-to-z claims, chargebacks or negative feedback.
  • High Late Shipment Rate, especially on Prime or high-volume SKUs.
  • Excessive pre-fulfillment cancellations or valid tracking issues.

Policy or listing violations

  • “Used sold as new,” safety complaints or serious product quality issues.
  • Restricted products, hazmat violations or unapproved medical/pesticide claims.
  • Variation abuse, misleading titles or images that don’t match the product.
  • Review manipulation or prohibited buyer messaging.

Authenticity and IP complaints

  • Inauthentic or counterfeit complaints with weak or missing invoices.
  • Trademark, copyright or patent complaints from rights owners.
  • Grey-market sourcing that breaks brand distribution rules.

Verification and linked-account issues

  • KYC/verification failures (ID, bank or address mismatches).
  • Seller account linked to a previously suspended or deactivated Amazon account.
  • Multiple accounts without prior written approval from Amazon.

3. First Steps When Your Amazon Account Is Deactivated

When your Amazon account is deactivated, panic is normal—but the first 24–72 hours are critical. Here is what we recommend as Amazon suspension attorneys:

  1. Read every notice carefully. Amazon often sends several messages: one announcing deactivation and others describing the violations.
  2. Download your data. Export order reports, performance metrics and case logs.
  3. Stop risky activity immediately. Pause questionable sourcing, listings or dropshipping flows.
  4. Do not open a new account. That almost always turns a fixable case into a permanent ban.
  5. Start a root-cause worksheet. For every violation, ask: “What process failed?”

Pro tip: Amazon’s bots can detect copy-and-paste, generic appeals. Take time to understand exactly why your account was deactivated before you draft anything.

4. Amazon Policies Behind Most Deactivated Accounts

To reinstate a deactivated Amazon account, your appeal must show that you now understand and will follow the policies you broke. The most important are:

Seller Code of Conduct

Violations include:

  • Running multiple accounts without permission.
  • Manipulating reviews, sales rank or search results.
  • Harassing competitors or submitting false IP complaints.

Product quality, safety & IP rules

  • Selling unsafe, expired, damaged or counterfeit products.
  • Listing against the wrong ASIN or misrepresenting brand/condition.
  • Using other brands’ logos, images or copy without authorization.

Performance standards

Amazon expects sellers to hit specific metrics on ODR, late shipments, cancellations and valid tracking. When you fall behind and ignore warnings, deactivation is often the next step.

5. Evidence You Need Before You Appeal a Deactivated Amazon Account

Strong appeals are built on documentation, not emotions. Before you draft anything, gather:

Authenticity & sourcing proof

  • Clear, recent invoices from manufacturers or authorized distributors.
  • Letters of authorization where applicable.
  • Photos of packaging, labels, barcodes and serial numbers.

Operational & quality-control records

  • Written SOPs for receiving, inspecting, packing and shipping inventory.
  • Warehouse or prep-center checklists and training logs.
  • Evidence of changes made after deactivation (new QC steps, new suppliers, repackaging, etc.).

Customer service & performance data

  • Messages showing how you resolved past complaints.
  • Screenshots of improved metrics after implementing changes.
  • Refund and replacement policies that align with Amazon’s rules.

6. How to Write a Winning Plan of Action for a Deactivated Amazon Account

A Plan of Action (POA) is the core of any appeal. For a deactivated Amazon seller account, it must be crystal clear and tightly focused on Amazon’s concerns. We structure them in three parts:

1. Root-cause analysis

Explain why the problem happened, not just what happened. For example: “We listed against the wrong ASIN and our team did not have a catalog review checklist,” not simply “We made a mistake.”

2. Corrective actions (already completed)

  • Which listings you removed or fixed.
  • Orders you refunded or replaced.
  • Suppliers you stopped using or vetted again.
  • Inventory you scrapped or relabeled.

3. Preventive measures (long-term changes)

  • New SOPs and checklists with dates they went into effect.
  • Staff training and who is responsible for compliance.
  • System changes (new prep-center instructions, new software alerts, separate accounts/devices for different businesses, etc.).

Keep the POA under about 700 words, use bullets, and mirror Amazon’s language from the notice so it is obvious you are addressing each issue directly.

Remember: Amazon reviewers see thousands of appeals. Generic text, excuses, or blaming customers is the fastest way to keep your deactivated Amazon account offline. Specific processes and documented fixes are what get accounts reinstated.

7. How Long Does It Take to Reinstate a Deactivated Amazon Account?

There is no guaranteed timeline, but most cases fall into these ranges:

  • Simple performance or listing issues: 3–10 days with a strong initial POA.
  • Authenticity or safety complaints: 1–4 weeks, especially if invoices or tests must be reviewed.
  • IP complaints, linked accounts or verification failures: Several weeks or longer, often requiring multiple submissions and sometimes legal escalation.

Sending the same weak appeal again and again does not speed things up. In our practice, the fastest reinstatements come from one carefully engineered appeal backed by solid evidence.

8. When to Hire an Attorney for a Deactivated Amazon Account

Many sellers can handle a simple policy warning on their own. But you should strongly consider professional help when:

  • Your deactivated Amazon account holds a large balance or represents most of your income.
  • You have already sent one or more appeals and received denials or no response.
  • The deactivation involves IP, counterfeit, safety or restricted product claims.
  • Amazon says your account is related to another banned or deactivated Amazon account.
  • You are considering arbitration or other legal options under the Amazon Business Solutions Agreement.

9. Deactivated Amazon Account FAQ

Why was my Amazon seller account deactivated?

Common triggers include poor performance metrics (ODR, late shipments, cancellations), repeated policy violations, inauthentic or safety complaints, restricted products, IP complaints, verification failures or links to other suspended accounts. Your deactivation notice usually lists at least one of these reasons.

How long does the Amazon appeal process take for a deactivated account?

It can take anywhere from a few days to several weeks. Simple performance issues are often reviewed faster, while IP, safety and linked-account cases usually take longer and may require multiple rounds of review.

Can I open a new seller account if my Amazon account is deactivated?

No. Opening a new account to bypass a deactivation violates Amazon’s Seller Code of Conduct and almost always results in both accounts being permanently banned. Focus on reinstating your original account.

What documents should I include when I appeal a deactivated Amazon account?

Provide unredacted supplier invoices, letters of authorization, proof of improved SOPs, warehouse or prep-center photos, training records, and screenshots showing corrected listings and improved metrics.

Do I need an attorney to appeal my deactivated Amazon seller account?

You can submit your own appeal, but an experienced Amazon seller attorney can help you identify root causes, structure your Plan of Action, and add legal options if Amazon refuses to act reasonably—especially when IP, counterfeit or large frozen balances are involved.

Hello, My name is Stephanie from Soon4you
We have 2 Amazon seller accounts.
However, the second open account was deactivated in 2020 due to the sale of brands that were not approved for sale by Amazon.
It was during the COVID pandemic at that time, and we tried to sell masks and got a few warnings, but we changed the category and tried to sell them, and eventually the account was deactivated.
I submitted the information about the product and made several appeals, but the account was not activated, and even main account was deactivated today due to this account problem.
Is it possible to activate the account?
