New Requirements for Amazon Sellers of Supplements

​If you are a “supplements” seller, then this article is for you! From the beginning of December, Amazon has attacked supplements sellers, asking to provide more supporting documentation about their products.

New requirements for sales of supplements on Amazon

To all sellers of supplements, we would highly recommend to get familiar with these requirements directly on Amazon:

• Food Supplements;
• Dietary Supplements.

New re-approval process for existing sellers

But for existing sellers, successfully doing their business, sometimes there is no time to read about all of Amazon’s changes in policy. This means, that even though you, as a seller, have already passed through the approval process and have provided before all necessary for Amazon documentation for your product, now you would need to do it again in order to prove compliance requirements.

In other words, if you sell food or dietary supplements, Amazon might ask to update the documents anytime to ensure that products are compliant with local laws and safe for customers.

The task for Amazon is huge and also understandable, though the procedure is frustrating; listings are deactivated, it takes time to obtain all necessary documentation for each product, and there are additional expenses because Amazon now asks for additional certifications from independent laboratoris. But remember, that you do not sell pencils or picture frames. You sell Supplements and if you passed your approval a long time ago, it’s necessary now to renew your right to offer the health products to customers.

New requirements for selling supplements on Amazon

If you received a notification from Amazon to update the compliance documents, be ready to provide:

1. Certification of Analysis (COA) and/or MSDS – for every product separately and up-to-date

• Must contain lot number and manufacture date
• Expiration date must not be in the past (documents with dates in the past will not be reviewed)
• Includes the name and address of the manufacturer or distributor
• Must be issued by an ISO 17025 certified laboratory
• CoA issued within the last six months
• CoA must contain quantitative analysis to support the active ingredient concentration as claimed on supplement facts panel
• Must include product name

 
2. Product Packaging Picture (PPP)

• A clear image of (1) supplemental or nutritional fact panel, and (2) ingredient list

• Must contain name and address of the manufacturer.
• Must include product name

 
​3. Letter of Guarantee from Manufacturer (LoG)

• LoG must contain complete product name as listed on label
• LoG must contain an assurance that the product is manufactured under current Good Manufacturing Practices
• LoG must contain an assurance that only lawful and safe, as defined in section 402 (f) of the FD&C Act, ingredients are utilized
• LoG must contain an assurance that concentration of active ingredient(s) as stated on the label and labeling is safe for consumption
