WHEN A CLOSED AMAZON ACCOUNT IS NOT CLOSED

We receive many clients whose Amazon seller accounts have been suspended for having a related account that cannot be used to sell on Amazon because of receiving the wrong information from Amazon Seller Support.  These Amazon sellers have received the “green light” from Seller Support to open a new account, and, once the new account has been created, it is immediately suspended for being related.

Don’t just open a new account no matter what they say

Amazon Seller Support will often advise clients with related accounts issues to open a new account with a new email address.  DO NOT DO THIS OR YOUR NEW ACCOUNT WILL BE SUSPENDED AS RELATED!  Sellers are generally only entitled to one account unless they have a legitimate business purpose (another business with a completely different organization and product line) and, even then sellers will still be suspended.

Don’t believe the line, “Your account is effectively closed”

If Amazon tells you your account is closed because it is suspended and you cannot use it, this is also not correct.  A suspended Amazon seller account is not the same as a closed account.  And an account cannot be properly closed until you have dealt with any policy violation issues in it first.  Warnings on policy issues will still remain in your performance notifications drop-down, but they will generally be wiped off your Seller Central dashboard every six months by the system.  That does not mean they have been resolved, so always check all your policy warnings and policy violations under your performance notifications and deal with each and every one of them that has not been resolved.

Accounts that fail verification count as multiple accounts

If you mess up in the verification process, you cannot simply abandon it and open a new account, no matter what Seller Support tells you.  In these cases, you must first verify the unverified account and then close it immediately.

How to properly close an Amazon seller account

If you have resolved all the policy violations in your old seller account and still wish to close it, In the settings drop-down menu, go to “account info” and, once there, under “Account Management” on the right bottom corner, click “close account.”
